CASL participated in the HOPES (Holistic Options for Planet Earth Sustainability) conference on Saturday, April 4 at the University of Oregon amphitheater. The 15th  annual HOPES conference theme was ‘think small’. CASL was ‘thinking small’ when they created mini raised garden frames from reused palette wood. After participants constructed the garden frames, they coated them with a non-toxic stain made from coffee, beets and onions. Learn how to make your own homemade paint stain from plant matter by clicking here.

Help CASL  install the frames on Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22 while learning how to garden with native plants. Lend a hand in the CASL garden and find yourself with a pristine yard just in time for spring!

HOPES is the only ecological design conference developed and managed by students. HOPES strives to encourage a deeper understanding and broader application of sustainable design principles. CASL and many other student-driven organizations took part in the conference by hosting workshops, presenting and networking with other students.

Support Earth Hour on Saturday, March 28 by turning off your lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour reduces electrical power and acts as a statement against global warming. Millions of homes, companies and organizations will turn off their lights to reduce energy and create awareness for sustainable living. This year, Earth Hour is using the campaign VOTE EARTH that asks people to vote yes for the Earth by turning off lights for one hour.

PIELC 2009

CASL held a table this weekend at the 27th Annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference organized by the University of Oregon School of Law. The conference united activists, attorneys, students, scientists and community members to share their expertise and insights. We shared CASL’s purpose and design plans to the attendees and connected with many interested individuals. Thanks for a great conference hosted by Land Air Water and Friends of Land Air Water.
